Happy Turkey Day!

Hey ya’ll!  How’s it goin’?  I just wanted to come on here and say Happy Thanksgiving!  One of my favourite times of the year, along with Christmas.  And the only reason I enjoy those two so much is because you get to spend so much time with your family.. and when you’ve got a massive family like me, that’s so fun!  Seriously, my mother has 15 brothers and sisters, who each have at least two children.  So, we have a pretty great time at Christmas parties!  I always enjoy that!

Well, on Wednesday I am auditioning for Canada’s Got Talent.  You know, competitions really aren’t my thing.  I’d rather just play in some old tavern with drunk people and chicken wings.. but I thought, wow.. this might be good for me.  Basically my motive for this competition, is bringing back the Blues & Soul.  That is what I will be saying in my interview with them.  I am here, to make people feel again.  All of that pop music, we don’t need it.  We need to feel again, we need music that we can soul dance to.  And that is my mission.  I dunno, I hope that’s not tacky?  I don’t think it is.  It’s only the truth.

Anyways, if you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you enjoy your meal and your family time!

First wave out of Billions, First surf out of Millions.

Yesterday I went surfing with my school.  I am so happy I went, because now, I am totally in love with surfing.  I didn’t go with them when they went last year because I had all of these self conscious issues, with the wet suit, and how dumb I would look out there on my board, but this time, I just said fuck it.. I am totally going and I’m going to catch some god damn waves!  And I did!  Well, ok.. I never got the chance to actually stand up on my board and surf, BUT.. I belly surfed (on my board) like two waves!  WELL.  I did it well.  hahah.  No honestly though, I think if I stick with it.. I might end up being a pretty good surfer.  I’ve just got to get into shape and all, and then I just have to stick with it.  And really, I enjoyed myself so much I truly think that wont be a problem.I was happy one of my best friends Judith was there, cause shes always fun to be with.  We had like this total bonding experience, and she has the potential to be a great surfer also!  It was so great!  Although the waves were crazy that day because of the storm coming.. and it made it really hard to even get out enough to catch a wave.. but, it was amazing.  I’ll always remember it as my first wave, the one that inspired me to catch so many others!

Also, today a great legend passed.  Bert Jansch.  You now, I just discovered him a few months back, so now I see he has passed and it is truly sad.  But either way, here’s one of his good tunes.

Apple Cinnamon Vegan Cake

Although the picture above is not the cake that I made, the one that I did make myself looked slightly like that.  I was dumb enough to not take a picture of it for my blog, so.. good job Lindsay!  You are so smart.. aren’t you? (I don’t normally type to myself in 3rd person! lol)

Anyways, yesterday I was invited to a birthday party for one of my good friends, and I decided to make a cake for him.  One of his friends that was attending is vegan, so I thought.. why don’t I just make a vegan cake so that everyone can enjoy?  So, I looked up numerous random cake recipes, keeping in mind that I hardly had any ingredients for anything because we are moving and everything is over in the other house.. either way, I finally found one that sounded extremely delish so I got started.

Ingredients:

• 2 cups flour
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 tbsp cornstarch
• 2 tsp baking soda
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 1/3 cup cocoa
• 1 1/2 cups applesauce

I didn’t have any cornstarch, so instead I added 2 tbsp’s of flour for each tbsp of cornstarch, and I also didn’t have any cocoa, so I substituted that with Cinnamon… which clearly changed everything!

So you heat the oven to 325°, grease the pan (I used a small circular one just like this), mix all of the dry ingredients together in a big bowl.  Like, seriously, you need a very large bowl because this cake mix is thick.  Then add the applesauce (I added a bit more than what was said to, but you know what.. you might want to go like way over the recommended amount because I found the cake a bit too dry.. it could have used a lot more applesauce.)  Then you just want to beat it with those beater things.. I forget what they are called.  The electric ones.  Or just use a cake mixer.. something with high power cause trust me.. you are going to need it. 

And then like everything else you have ever baked, you put it in the oven!  It says 50-55 minutes, mine had to cook for like over an hour.  I guess it just depends on your oven, and also the thickness of the cake, etc.  Just keep sticking a toothpick in it till it comes out clean.You can frost if you like.  It’s honestly annoying to make vegan frosting.. because most frosting’s are made with butter & milk, so I had to use water and pure icing sugar instead.. and I thought the icing was just too sweet.  Everyone else loved it, but if you are anything like me and don’t really care too much for extreme sweetness, I guess you’ll either have to not frost it, or find some other vegan alternative.

Earth Mama’s Good Time

I just got back from a much needed camping trip.  As you know, if you have recently read my blog.. I went on a camping trip with my class for three days.  It was just wonderful.  I gained a new name, Earth Mama (which I will use greasily.)

So the first day we got there, we loaded up the canoe’s with our gear and headed straight out for the island.  It was pretty windy, which made the water rough, and also it’s not like we are experienced canoe-ers so it made sense when my friend & I were like way in back and got there last.  Not like it matters, I’m just sayin’.  lol.  Either way, we got there and it was beautiful.  I mean, the island was just unreal.  So nice.  There was a rocky beach, warm water, and the island was big, but it was small enough that you could just walk right around it.
So many times on that island, I found myself in a state of true peace.  I honestly felt so beautiful in my place.  It was amazing.  I really never realized how much this Earth meant to me until this trip.  Although, I was always going on about how much we should all appreciate our mother, I really didn’t know what I meant by that exactly.. but I really started to understand during these three days.
Anyways, there really isn’t too much else to say about the trip, so now I’m going to talk about something a bit more exciting!  SOAP.

I’ve decided to start making Organic Vegan soap to sell at possibly my local farmer’s market, and possibly other places if I can.  It’s a really long process, so I don’t exactly know when I will be doing it and how I am going to do it per say, BUT.. I will most definitely be doing it in the near future and I am awfully excited about it.  Personally, I love to use hemp soap.  That is my all time favourite, which also goes along with me being somewhat of a Cannabis Activist.  So, along with hemp soap, I’m planning to just make a bunch of different herb soaps.  Of course, I don’t think this is going to be a life long career, something that will pay the bills, but it’s definitely a beautiful side project and it sounds so fun!  I’m also pretty interested in making other things like possibly body washes, shampoos, etc.  I’m not sure about those though, they seem a tad bit more advanced.  Along with body products, I might start making candles too!  I’ve never really heard of a hemp candle, but I’m sure it has been done many times before!  Once I start, I’ll most likely post tutorials, etc.

I still haven’t made any rugs yet!  Kind of annoyed with myself over that!  I need to get to my local hardware store and buy all of the equipment, and then I’ve got to find a large picture frame because I kind of want to make a massive rug for my music studio at my new house!  But for now.. I must get on my way I’m quite hungry and have a great dish in mind!  It involves Tofu, Steak, and salad.  Sounds a bit gross.. but it will be amazing.

I am Honestly so Excited!

I was roaming around the web, looking for random things to do.. and came across this lovely lovely lovelyyyyyyyyyyyyy rug making tutorial!  Although the tutorial doesn’t exactly explain things extremely well, it’s pretty adaptable and I think once I get everything situated I’ll be able to do it.
You know, I’m really getting into recycling old clothing and using materials that I’ve had around for ages just because it’s so much healthier for our Earth.  I mean, it’s not like my actions make the biggest impact ever; but I guess everything always starts from one.  You can go here to check the tutorial out.

Next week (Wednesday) my class and two others are going camping for three days.  The first day, my class and just one other are going to canoe to an island and make a camp site there.  We will sleep overnight, have a campfire, ect.  While we are doing that, another grade will be crazy canoeing and portaging for hours!  Then the next day we will all come back to the main campsite and stay together for the last night.  It’s so weird, because the first year I came to my school, I went on this camping trip, and I had the worst time ever and vowed to never go back again.  They went last year, and I stood true to my vow and did not go.  But this summer, I have just come to peace with our Mother.  I have really fell in love with my bare feet on the green grass, and trying to save our Earth as much as I can.  So, with that, I am fucking going camping this year.  Not only that, but I have a somewhat new found love for rowing sports!  Kayaking is my favourite by far, but Canoeing is great too!  Not saying that I’m real good at either of these.. but I do have a genuine interest.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve attempted to become Vegan or Vegetarian.  Not only does living with someone who’s not (and who is the person that buys all of the food) make things twenty times harder, but it’s also pretty hard when you have no idea how to cook anything that is Vegan/Veggie.  I mean, it’s a really hard thing to do.  You just kind of think, well for god sake’s.. I can hardly eat anything!  But the truth is.. you really can!  I went to this beautiful little restaurant here in Halifax yesterday called Jane’s on the Common.  They have such a great Vegan selection, I thought I might as well try it.  So, I picked a dish called East to West, which originally comes with Eggs, Tofu, and Brown Rice; but if you choose to go Vegan, the eggs are eliminated.  So, I got it… and I must say, it was just fabulous.  I’m pretty sure it was just Tofu & Brown Rice soaked in Soya sauce and a bit of Sesame.  Beautiful Beautiful dish.  I would definitely recommend trying it.
When I got home I tried to find a recipe for the dish, and was successful.  I was quite happy.  And not only was I successful at finding the right recipe, but along with that I found an amazing website that is basically all about Vegan cooking!  It’s called The Poor Vegan .  And that is also where I first discovered the Recycled Rug tutorial above!

Hola Senior’s & Senorita’s!

Hey there!  How’s it goin?  Welcome to my online journal!  Here I will not be discussing interesting and wonderful topics (If you’d like interesting and meaningful topics, you can click here to go to my other blog).  I will be talking about my daily life, sometimes complaining, and sometimes praising.

So today, school started.  It was a great day.  I must say.  And it went by super quick, which is sometimes a plus.. but today, I wish it would have went on longer.  It seems as if we had accomplished so much in one day, I never wanted it to end!  This year, we only have THREE PEOPLE in our grade.  But, we have split classes, so, the next grade down is with us, which makes our class a total of twelve I believe.

We have a new teacher, who is unbelievably fabulous.  She is seriously the coolest person ever, and I hardly know her so that tells you something.  She is only going to be teaching my grade Drama, but either way.. shes totally cool and I can’t wait to actually get to know her.

I really don’t know why I wanted to be in Drama so bad this year.  Although I’m sure I could act just fine, I CANNOT remember lines.  I mean, I guess the only lines I’ve ever had to remember were god damn Shakespeare.. and those are hard fucking lines!  So, if I was trying to memorize normal English maybe it would be easier?  Either way, I’m totally nervous, and hope that if I do end up acting at all.. that I will not get a big part.  Cause if that happens, I am in loads of trouble.  Not only do we get a shit ton of homework.. but lines on top of that would just be way too much for me to handle.

Math.. well, let’s just not talk about that too too much.  I’m awful with math.  It is something that I really cannot do well.  And it’s not because I don’t want to do it, it’s just because I have no idea how to actually do like any of it.  I can’t ever remember what I learned the day before and nothing sticks with me if I’ve learnt it one year.  The next year I totally forget everything.  It’s pretty frustrating I must say.

You know, I was surprised that we didn’t get any homework today.  Usually it’s the first day of school and we are already beginning to read a book and have a paper due the next week.  But I guess that’s because we really didn’t follow our class schedule today, and got to skip the teachers who would normally give us homework.  They’ll most likely get us tomorrow, haha.

Anyways, I’ll let you all go now.  I’m off to read a book, and maybe do some unwanted math.
